Ms. McKesson joined TMG in the fall of 2017. She is an emerging urban planner who specializes in data interpretation and dissemination using quantitative methods, GIS, and Adobe Creative Suite. She recognizes the value of inclusion in creating shared goals and works toward achieving the highest standards for all stakeholders throughout comprehensive planning projects.

Kate came to New Orleans in 2009 and began her consecutive degrees in International Business, Urban Studies, and Urban Planning at the University of New Orleans. Kate's interests lie firmly rooted in sustainable, socially-conscious resilience planning which she saw while living abroad in BCN, Mexico during her 20s. While there, she observed that planning happened more often than not on a Tactical Urbanist scale and was nearly always accompanied with seemingly insurmountable challenges. Her Master's research centered on the disconnect between workers and jobs; her Doctoral research involves the intricacies and importance of employment (especially relating to the informal sector) in defining planning agendas.

Before joining TMG, Kate served as lead planning consultant for the "A Vision for St. Tammany" master plan which she co-wrote with local architect Gus Pelias and Dean Emerita of UNO’s College of Liberal Arts, Susan Krantz. She also worked on the HUD-funded, regional resilience planning project "LA SAFE" as part of a team with Waggonner & Ball Architecture and Environment. Prior to entering the planning field, her analytical expertise was applied to large-scale marketing strategies in the field of hospitality, restaurants, and tourism. During that time she held a series of leadership roles culminating with the position of Chief Operating Officer at Porter Lyons Designs which she left in order to shift into urban planning in early 2017. By merging her backgrounds in business and planning, she has developed specialized expertise in local and regional economics. Ms. McKesson brings an eye for accuracy and a pragmatism that enables her to problem solve in the best interest of all constituents across concurrent strategic and operational goals.
