After obtaining his bachelor's degree, Dr. Tran embarked on his professional journey as an urban planner at a private firm. Subsequently, he joined the Department of Architecture and Planning at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering as a faculty member. Driven by his passion for research and analysis of urban issues, Dr. Tran was awarded the prestigious Fulbright scholarship to pursue a master's program in the United States. Inspired by his experiences and motivated to delve deeper into the field, he decided to pursue a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Science.

During his tenure as a researcher and educator, Dr. Tran initiated and managed several research projects and academic collaborations between institutions in the United States and their counterparts in Vietnam. He actively participated in numerous international workshops, conferences, and field trips, collecting valuable data and provided training to both students and faculty members. Dr. Tran's expertise and dedication have resulted in the publication of multiple peer-reviewed articles covering a wide range of topics such as green infrastructure, affordable housing, and urbanization.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Tran also served as a consultant for various urban planning projects in Vietnam. While working for an international consulting firm and an US-based policy institute, he effectively coordinated teams of experts, consultants, local leaders, and community members to deliver comprehensive reports and presentations on various development topics, including vision statements, land use, transportation strategies, climate change adaptation, and economic and sustainable development.

Prior to his time in New Orleans, Dr. Tran worked as an Urban Planning Strategist at an engineering firm in Austin, Texas. In this role, he supported the company's leadership by conducting research and analysis on permanent supportive housing, the built-environment market, in-fill development, and business development strategies. He also collaborated closely with multidisciplinary teams to prepare and present reports on site feasibility, zoning applications, affordable housing funding, and development incentive applications.

At TMG Consulting, Dr. Tran is working on multiple projects with local and regional clients. He coordinates and develops an assessment framework tailored specifically for affordable housing developments. He devises forward-looking strategies aligning with the organization’s overarching vision, aimed at benefiting local communities and optimizing municipal resources. Dr. Tran also works on multiple funding strategies and applications for the regional client. Leveraging his expertise in GIS and other analytical tools, he conducts comprehensive spatial analyses, offering strategic solutions to address emerging concerns. As TMG Consulting's dedicated planning and GIS analyst, his work remains instrumental in guiding effective project planning and implementation.

Dr. Tran received his Doctor of Philosophy from the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning at Texas A&M University in 2022. He had previously earned a Master of Urban Planning from the same department in 2013 and a Bachelor of Architecture from the Department of Architecture and Planning at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering.
